We have conducted several experiments on the effect of chloramphenicol and rifampicin.
Chloramphenicol stops the growth of the microorganisms through inhibition of their protein synthesis. In the case of K562 cells chloramphenicol significantly reduced cellgrowth, the activity of the citocrom c oxidase , and the synthesis of ATP and ferritin.
The mechanism of rifampicin is based on the inhibiton of the polymerisation of RNA. It's bactericidal effect is prevalent on intracellular and extracellular pathogens.

We investigated human bone marrow cells in vitro, using Long Term Scan system. We observed cell-growth, movement, proliferation, apoptosis, and diverse stress factors' effects on cells. In the course of our experiment we were investigating the toxicity of different forms of selenium on HaCaT cell cultures in vitro. The forms were: selenate, selenite, biological and chemical selenium forms and nanosized selenium.
During our study the toxicity of different forms of selenium was monitored on HaCaT – human keratinocyte – cell cultures depending on the chromatin condensation. We also used controll cultures for our assay, to which we did not use any kind of selenium. We added to the cell cultures solutions of four different concentrations of selenium: 1ppm, 5ppm, 10ppm and 50ppm. To study the chromatin condensation we bred the cell cultures, after that we isolated the cell nuclei then with the help of fluorescent microscopy we observated the cell nuclei.
According to the results we can say that the less toxic was the biological selenium form while the selenate proved to be the most toxic selenium form.
